Can
you cycle in the Pyrenees in winter ?
Yes,
depending on whereabouts you situate yourself . We get many warm days and
lots of sun often more stable than the summer months. The inhibiting factor
is if there is snow falling and low temperatures that make the roads icy.
As
a general rule we would say that ,
-
the
foothills altitude 300m are good for cycling all year around .
-
600m
beware of black ice in January and early Febuary.average of 9 days snow
on the ground per year.
-
900m
average of 30 days of snow on the ground per year.
-
1200m
average of 30 days snow on the ground per year.
-
1800m
onwards 60 days of snow on the ground with sheltered slopes slowly
melting until april.
But
are the mountain passes open ?
Obviously
not all are,up to ski resorts there is not a problem. Otherwise depends
on the altitude of the pass and its usefulness. We shall put up details
on the cols page
